A Life Dedicated to the Gospel
MEET ELMER MURDOCH, THE FOUNDER OF STEP UP TO LIFE
For over seven decades, Pastor Elmer Murdoch faithfully served as a shepherd, mentor, and teacher, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives. His influence continues through Step Up to Life, a ministry committed to helping believers overcome common Gospel-sharing barriers and effectively communicate the message of salvation.
Pastor Murdoch was known for his bold yet compassionate leadership. He stood firm on biblical truth while extending grace and wisdom to all he encountered. Those who knew him often remarked, "Pastor Murdoch laid spiritual foundations in my life that I’ve been building on for years." He had an insatiable curiosity and a deep love for people, always eager to learn about their lives and guide them closer to Christ. His passion for history, theology, and hymn-leading made him an unforgettable presence in the pulpit.
The Origin Story
HOW STEP UP TO LIFE GOT STARTED
In 1957, Pastor Murdoch preached a sermon entitled “Steps Leading to Salvation”, unknowingly planting the seed for what would become the Step Up to Life five-step process and booklet. He recognized the challenge of genuine discipleship, echoing concerns from Christian leaders that many who make decisions for Christ do not continue in their faith. Step Up to Life was his response—a relational, non-confrontational method that helps individuals identify where they are spiritually and make a heart-based, lasting commitment to Jesus.
His influence will endure, not only in the materials he created but in the lives he touched. As he once said, "One great way to help us is to recommend this material to a friend." In doing so, we honor his legacy and continue his mission—to help others Step Up to Life in Christ.

AN ENDURING LEGACY
Today, the Elmer Murdoch Legacy Fund (EMLF) stands as a testament to our founder’s vision. Together, we can honor his legacy by ensuring future generations are equipped with the trusted five-step process to lead others to Christ.
